Bootchamp – Easy Reboot OSX To Windows

unnamed-2Of course, we don’t recommend anyone boots into Windows – but sometimes you just have to. Maybe you need to run QuickBooks and you’re an Australian business which doesn’t have a native Mac version. Maybe you want to play some games and they just don’t quite run as well under OSX as they do under Windows.

So, you installed BootCamp, and everything went swimmingly. But you keep forgetting to press ALT when the Mac reboots (or whatever key it is, I’ve forgotten) – or you don’t want to ALWAYS boot into Windows, which is what will happen if you change your startup disk via the System Preferences.

Enter BootChamp. Like BootCamp but with an H. And it really is a champion little piece of software. It might hardly ever get used, but on that odd occasion when you just need Windows for whatever reason, you’ll be glad you installed it. It sits unobtrusively (if you tick the box) in your system menu at the top of the screen. When you want to reboot into Windows, just select Restart Into Windows, give your admin credentials to Mac OSX and you’ll be rebooting into Windows.

If you want to only do it this once (which probably you do, otherwise you’d have bought a Windows PC wouldn’t you!) then tick the item that says ‘Next Restart Only’ and then when you finish with your Windows session and reboot again, it’ll boot into OSX for you.

It’s the world’s tiniest download and I notice the latest version has removed the ‘obsolete Next Restart Only option’. It’s well worth installing, if you occasionally boot Windows, check out BootChamp.
